QUEEN CARNIVAL

£1,000,000 APPEAL

BIG PATRIOTIC DRIVE

A variety of entertainments, including a spectacular street day with a procession of floats and bands, will launch the "victory Queen Carnival in Wellington towards the end of the month and the organising committees are confident that Wellington's share of the £1,GC0,000 patriotic appeal— £100,000—will be raised,by the middle of May. There uvc six Victory Queens and their committees are working, hard to ensure lull support from every section of the public. The carnival programme will provide events for almost every day, including concerts, balls, cabaret evenings, dances, card parties, and a variety of other entertainments all desighed to attract funds to the patriotic coffer. Individual committees will naturally endeavour to collect as much as possible for their .respective "Queens and a large barometer is to be erected in the city to show the positions of the candidates from day to day.

Support already promised has been on a generous scale and the street day procession should be. one of the most spectacular ever held in Wellington. Members of the Australian, Canadian, American, Hindu, and Chinese communities- intend to take part,, and there will be inter-house girls' teams, the Fire Brigade, nurses, Territorials, and a contingent from Trentharn to lend colour and variety to the procession. COMING EVENTS. . Events arranged include a concert for the Fighting Services Queen on Sunday night, when members of the Gilbert and Sullivan and Rio Rita companies and local artists will provide excellent entertainment.

The Retailers' Princess, who is a member of the retinue of the Commerce Queen, is arranging a bridge and whist drive.
