COLLABORATION BY U.S.

JAPANESE ALLEGATION

DANGER OF WAR

(Received February 14, 2.30 p.m.)

NEW YORK, February 13

A Tokio message states: If President Roosevelt's denial of danger of war in llic Pacific is based on die completion of a system of lull collaboration between the United Slates, Australia, and Britain 'for the defence of the South Pacific against Japan, then there is nothing so dangerous, declared the Japanese mili : tary organ "Yoiniuri."

The paper asserted that the United States sent a naval observer to Australia and is reported to be planning to send observers to Auckland, Singapore, and Gape * Town. This places the waters eastward of Suez under the control of the United Stales. THAILAND'S POSITION.. j The Domei news agency, reports-that the Australian Minister, Sir John Latham, had a long conference with tIW Foreign Minister, Mr. Matsuoka, on "the general situation between Japan and Australia.','

It has been officially denied in Bangkok that Thailand has granted the use of airports to Japan. However, itj is revealed that negotiations have been | concluded permitting Japanese com-! mercial planes to use the former Air

France route direct from Bangkok to Saigon instead of the longer route along the gulf. - There has been absolutely no change in relations between Britain and Thailand, said a high Government authority. He emphasised^ that there was no. misunderstanding whatever between the -two Governments, and pointed out that there had been the customary courtesy between two Governments of an exchange of information on defence preparations in their respective territories adjoining ,the Thai-Malayan border. Therefore, Press reports of military and air force reinforcements on the Malayan side of the border did not come as a surprise. ■
