Mr. Fraser's Announcement

The Prime Minister (Mr. Fraser) this afternoon confirmed the statement of the Australian Advisory War Council that the war had moved to a new stage. He stated that information received; by the Government indicateil that the position overseas was becoming increasingly serious; "It must indeed be quite apparent to every member of the public," said Mr. Fraser, "that the continued and continuing deterioration of events abroad is resulting in a situation of the utmost gravity.

"The War Gabinet and the Government are giving daily, and, in fact, hourly, attention to these matters, and the people of New Zealand can be assured that all possible steps necessary to maintain and increase New Zealand's preparedness are being taken."
