BRITISH WAGE INCREASES

RUGBY, February 11
Nearly 800,000 working people in industry received an increase in wage rates during 1940 equal to more than £104,000,000 annually. The estimate has been given by the Ministry of Labour. It does not cover farm workers, shop assistants,, and -Government employees, who also gained substantial improvements. The new national minimum of £2 8s for agricultural workers resulted in increases of 9s to 17s a week for men, representing a gain of some £1,700,000 a year for 500,000 persons.
