H. B. LORIGAN AT LEVIN

A REDUCED TEAM

SIR REYNARD IN NORTH

Since transferring to the hotel busi-, ness in Levin, the ex-Trentham trainer H. B. Lorigan has disposed of sevisral of his team, and the only horses 'he has now in training are Gothic. and The Monarch, in both of whom he is interested. J. J. Waller, of Awapuni, has taken over Acrobat, P. Burgess has Lady Boswal, and Mr. F. Kettlewell is preparing Tristan and Siegmund, who carry his colours. Sir Reynard has gone north and joined R. S. Bagby's team at Ellerslie. Lorigan has been one of the leading trainers in the Dominion for a number of years, and all will wish him well in his new calling. All Irish Back. Among the horses recently recommissioned at Ellerslie was the Great Northern Steeplechase winner of last year, All Irish, who is being allotted light tasks in view of the forthcoming winter season. A feature of his appearance is the fact that his legs areparticularly clean considering the great amount of racing he has had over/obstacles, and judging, on his present condition he should be as good as ever this season. Plenty of Racing. The West Coast mare Skyrena must be a hardy mare, for when she competed unsuccessfully at Gore on Monday she was making, her seventy-nitn appearance in the last three seasons, and she has been placed on no fewer than 40 occasions. In her. first season, as a four-year-old, she started m 31 races and was in the money on 19 occasions, including seven firsts. Last season she had a similar number of starts for seven firsts, six seconds and three thirds, while to date this term she has secured three seconds and two thirds in 13 starts. ' » Notable Absentee. Sovereign Lady, Muffler, and Rue were notable omissions from' the list of nominations for the forthcoming Dunedin Meeting. The absence of Mr G. Murray Aynsley will leave a real gap, as he has been one of the oldest and most successful patrons of Wingatui. He has a great record .m the Dunedin Cup, having trained six winners of the race—Stepdance (1906 and 1907), Prim (1909), Warstep (1915), j Footfall (1927), and Silver Scorn (1933). Promising Galloper. The Opaki gelding Augment did not take long to make his presence felt in the open ranks,, for, after failing to make any showing over six furlongs Si the first day of the Rotorua Meeting, he came out on Monday and scored in easy fashion at a mile. This horse ha.s made steady improvement during the past couple of seasons, until he now impresses as one of the most promising middle-distance performers in Se North Island, and several Bood iudees will be astray if he fails to annlx one of the leading staying races of the Dominion before the year is out. t . New Appointment. . W. Hawthorn, who recently accepted a position to train for the Hon. E. R. Davis and Mr. O. Nicholson .has! five horses in active work at Takanmi. They are Foxola, Queen City, Agticola, River Plate, and Heroic Star and they form the nucleus of a useful team Foxola has done particularly. well as the result of a short spell since the Christmas racing, and she should again be a good winner this season. . Sham Boy Appeal. The appeal lodged by the connections of Sham Boy against the decision of the Waikoualti Racing Club m^award. ing the winner's share of the stake in the Hawkesbury Handicap to Circular Note was recently heard by^the Dunedin District Committee, when, after lengthy evidence had been taken the decision was reserved. It will probably be announced tomorrow. Double Winner. Bronze Bird, who annexed a double at Rotorua, gives promise of developing into a very useful galloper, and a good future is predicted for her She has had only three:starts to date, finishing fourth at Thames m her only previous appearance. She is a three-year-old filly by Bronze Eagle from the Acre mare Cat-Bird, a full-sister to that useful northern sprinter Prince Acre. The family traces back to the well-known Juliet taproot, a line that has been responsible for many leading performers. Te Aroha Entries. The Te Aroha Club has received 32 entries for the Herries Memorial Cup, of £1050; 11 furlongs—Pirate King, Bronwen, Gold Vaals, Farland. The Ring Duvach, Foxsen, Boatsong, Trench Fight, Forest Acje, Gay Rosette Mintlaw, Our Jean, Lou Rosa, Flying Acre, Pern, Augment Friesland, Cillas, Brahman, Clinch, Proud Fox, Cornish, Orelio, Queen City. Racecamp, Beau Leon, Joan Peel, Merry Vaals, Greek Queen, Lord Waitangi, Sir Cameron. \
