NAVAL SERVICE
VOLUNTEERS WANTED
•TRAINING ON MOTUIHI ISLAND
RECRUITING PLANS
Referring to his announcement made on January 22 last about the setting up of a special wartime training establishment for naval ratings on Motuihi Island, Auckland, which is known as H.M.S. Tamaki, the Minister of Defence (Mr. Jones) stated today that plans for recruiting were now complete and that an advertisement calling for volunteers would appear in the principal newspapers on Monday and Tuesday, February 10 and 11.
"Successful applicants not required for service in New Zealand ships will, after training, be drafted overseas for service with the Royal Navy," said Mr. Jones. "For single young men with a liking for the sea this scheme of recruiting presents a splendid opportunity.
"Recruiting will be for seamen, signalmen, telegraphists, stokers, and cooks. Applications for the first batch will close on Saturday, February 22, 1941. Full details of how to obtain particulars and make application will be published in the advertisements.
"Naval recruiting offices are being opened at Auckland, Napier, Wellington, Christchurch, and Dunedin," added Mr. Jones, "and intending candidates should apply to the nearest naval recruiting office at the addresses given in the advertisement."
