ESCORT VESSEL LOST

An Air Ministry and Home Security Ministry communique, states that during the early part of last night bombs were dropped by enemy aircraft on eastern and south-eastern England and in the London area. The raids were on a small scale. Damage was done in one or two place's but as a whole it was not heavy.
The number of casualties reported is small.
Reports of yesterday's R.A.F. operations show that two fighters were lost with their pilots, making a total of seven lost during the day. An Admiralty communique states that an enemy dive-bomber was shot down by the trawler Philomena when enemy aircraft: attacked one of our convoys off the south-east coast yesterday. No ship in the convoy was lost or damaged, but the Admiralty announces that the trawler Tournaline, one of the escorting vessels, was sunk.
