"BANJO" PATERSON
MINISTER'S TRIBUTE
A tribute to the work and personality of "Banjo" Paterson. whose death was reported yesterday, was paid last night by the Minister of Internal Affairs (Mr. Parry). All walks of life in the Commonwealth, he said, would feel that by the passing of "Banjo" they had been bereft of a mate who inspired them and interpreted the national spirit of their country. For the greater part of his adult life there ._ad flowed from Mr. Paterson's facile pen verse and jingle all so characteristic of sunny Australia, all so accurately portraying the Australian. "It is popularly, and no doubt correctly, said," continued Mr. Parry, "that the poets and rhymesters largely helped to build up the indomitable spirit of the Australian. The verses of 'Banjo' Paterson breathe the sentiment of his country which will never die."
