A Distinguished Service Order, Distinguished Service Cross, and five Distinguished Service Medals have been awarded to members of the crew of the British submarine Thunderbolt —originally the Thetis, which sank in Liverpool Bay in 1939 during her trial dive and was raised some three months later—"for courage, skill, and seamanship in destroying an Italian submarine." , s
