PRESS COMMENT

INDIES CRITICISED

"AUDACIOUS ATTITUDE"

TOKIO, February 3,

The "Nichi Nichi Shimbun" says: "The Netherlands East Indies is taking such an audacious and impertinent attitude in rejecting participation in the Japanese:advocated East Asia coprosperity sphere because Japan has not bombed Hong Kong and Singapore! If such drastic action is taken by Japan, the Netherlands Indies authorities will be unable to raise a finger."

The "Ishii Shimbun" said that Japan will not reply to the Dutch Government's rejection of participation in the East Asia co-prosperity sphere and also that Japan's policy regarding , the Dutch East Indies will not be affected by the Dutch protest. The newspaper denied that the trade negotiations in Batavia were at a standstill.
