FIRST LINE BROKEN
RESISTANCE IN ERITREA
CAIRO, February 4
The occupation of Barentu following the fall of Agordat means that the first Italian line of organised resistance in Eritrea is now completely broken. Barentu was surrounded on three sides, but most of the Italians escaped by a "bolthole" under cover of darkness and are now in full retreat to the southeast along a narrow winding mule track which joins the main Addis Ababa-Asmara Road some 40 miles south of Asmara.
