VETERAN BOWLERS
Veterans of many bowling clubs, men of long years and in most cases with the backing of considerable experience, were the principals in a gala occasion at the Wellington Bowling Club this afternoon. Only those who had reached the allotted span were eligible to play; it was their particular representative event of the season —a tournament originated by Mr. Sam Potter seventeen years ago. They were welcomed by Mr. Tom Lock, the centre president, who made reference to the happy results brought about by the adoption of Mr. Potter's idea. The president also paid tribute to the Wellington Bowling Club and the ladies for their help in making the event a notable one. Before play commenced all paid silent tribute to the memory of those who had passed away since the last tournament. The first jack was thrown by P. Christensen, an 85-year-old Wellington Club member, and the first bowl was delivered by S, W. Lodge, an 89-year-old Eastbourne representative.
