STATE CONTROL

AUSTRALIAN TRANSPORT

POSSIBLE IF WAR REACHES PACIFIC

SYDNEY, February 3

Addressing the Constitutional Association today the Minister for the Army, Mr. Spender, envisaged the possibility of the Commonwealth Government assuming complete control of transport should war develop in the Pacific. He said that the problems of uniformity and unified control which the war had brought into focus would continue to exist after the war.

"We shall certainly hear," he said, "of the right of the individual to demand a greater, fairer, and more just social order. Will that be implemented by the States or introduced by the Commonwealth in exer ising its responsibilities to those who played their part in winning the war? These problems must be dealt with on the.basir of planning for many years ahead."
