MANY MEALS SERVED

MEN OF THE FORCES ON LEAVE WEEKENDENTERTAINMENT It is just as well that so many organisations have undertaken to look after men of the forces and to provide them with entertainment when they have leave from their bases at the weekends. If this very important aspect of war work were left to one club a great deal of the personal touch which means so much to the men would' be lost. Every weekend the men flock to the various hospitality centres, and after a while they become known to their hosts and hostesses, and, as a result the welcome which they receive is a personal one and makes the men feel really at home. , ! CROWD AT NATIONAL CLUB. Nearly 120 servicemen attended the National Club for dinner on Saturday and, in addition, National Union girls served a buffet supper to about 80 people. The tea dance was crowded. Miss Josephine Russell was in charge, assisted by Misses L. C. Clifford, I. Mason, B. McLaren, D. Puttick, M. Mathias, and H. Turnbull. On Sunday National Club members also had a busy day. Mrs. Claude Westori was assisted by a' large committee, comprising Mesdames A. S. Moriey, C. M. Banks, J. M. Griffiths, H. E. Anderson, N. J. Daysh, E. E. Young, Misses M. Gould, D. MacGowan, H. Taylor, and J. Chote. A.N.A. ACKNOWLEDGES HAMPERS. Hampers from as far afield as Wanganui were received by the Army, Navy, and Air Force Club during the week. The Wanganui gift was from the local Air Force Relations (per Mrs. Gifford-Moore). Other hampers fromj the Makara W.D.F.U., Mrs. E. Riddi- j ford, and the Martinborough Women's Patriotic Committee, were also gratefully acknowledged by the executive. Many servicemen made use of the club and cafeteria during the week. At the Friday .night dance, Miss btfalmai Richardson and Mrs. Young were in charge, and on Saturday Misses Denise Puttick and Patricia Gledhill were on duty in the dance room. Additional help was given to executive and Other club members during the week by members of the Navy League, New Zealand Founders' Society, Air Force Relations, and many clubs, V.M.C.A. SOLDIERS' TEA. j Over 250 men of the Forces were served with an evening meal yesterday at the V.M.C.A. The hostesses were members of the association's ladies' auxiliary. A programme of items, which the guests thoroughly enjoyed, ! was presented. Mrs. D.'
