RUN OVER BY TRAIN

BOY'S SHOCKING INJURIES

(By Telegraph—Press Association.)

HASTINGS, This Day,

An 11-year-old boy was killed when he was run over by a southbound express just north of the Whakatu Freezing Works this morning. Death was instantaneous, the boy's head and one hand being completely severed from the body. He was Cameron Smith, son of Mr. Cameron Smith, an employee at the Whakatu Freezing Works. The boy. left home at about 8.30 to go fishr ing, and was walking along the railway line towards the bridge over the Ngaruroro River from which he intended to fish. There is a distinct bend in the line at the point where the boy was killed, and it is assumed that the train must have come into his view suddenly and he had taken fright and become confused.
