COUPLE ON RAFT

LITTLE HOPE HELD OUT

According to information from Hawera today, little hope is now held out for Mr. and Mrs. C. Oakes, the newly-married couple who have been 'adrift'on a raft off the Taranaki coast since Monday evening. Police are still patrolling the beaches, but no trace of th- raft or its occupants has been seen.

Mr. and Mrs. Oakes put out on Monday evening to test their new raft, as a fishing craft. They were lightly clad and carried no food of any kind. They are believed to have had a fishing line with them.

Searches from the air were abandon' ed early this week.
