DOMINION'S WHEAT
AN ADVANCE NOTICE
300,000 ACRES OF CROP
NEEDED
The Minister of Industries and Commerce has announced that the price for wheat for the 1942 harvest will be 5s 9d per bushel, March Tuscan basis, with the usual periodical increments and the customary premiums for varieties. Mr. Sullivan said he is making this announcement early to enable wheat growers to prepare for autumn sowings and to give them plenty of time to arrange for a sufficient acreage to supply the whole of New Zealand's requirements. In order that there will be ample supplies for all purposes—for seed, for poultry, and for human consumption —about 300,000 acres must be planted. "I am pleased to announce," said the Minister, "that during au interview which I have had recently with Mr. H. F. Nicoll, president o.f the United Wheat Growers, when matters affecting the industry, including shortage of labour, effect of weather on price, and other matters were discussed. I was assured.that the farmers who produce this commodity will, as they have in the past, do everything possible to.put the required acreage into wheat this year."
