CABINET CHANGES

EFFECTIVE NEXT WEEK

NEW MEMBERS TO BE

SWORN IN

SELECTION OF POSTS

The changes in the Ministry decided upon at the Government caucus last month will become effective as from next Tn/esday, January 21, when the new members appointed by caucus, the Rev. A. H. Nordmeyer (Oamaru), Mr. J. G. Barclay (Marsden), and Mr. P. K. Paskea (Northern Maori),

will be sworn in. At the same time

the Prime Minister (Mr. Fraser) will announce the rearrangement of portfolios consequent upon the appointment of Mr. Nordmeyer and Mr. Barclay to the Ministry. ,

These two members will fill the vacancies caused by the retirement of the Minister of Agriculture (Mr. Martin) and the Minister of Marine (Dr. McMillan). Mr. Paikea will be the representative of the Maori race on the Executive Council.

Since the announcement of their retirement from Ministerial rank, Mr. Martin and Dr. McMillan have both in* dicated that they will not seek reelection at the next General Election. No spectacular changes are likely to take place in the readjustment of portfolios. It is generally^ anticipated that Mr. Barclay will succeed Mr. Martin as Minister of Agriculture.
