Valuable Documents

(Keceived January 17, 1 p.m.)

LONDON, January 16.

The American Press's correspondent in , Libya says that valuable documents and maps captured at Bardia provided much information about the internal affairs of Italy and Albania, and about Italian formations in Libya. Correspondence has disclosed considerable friction and jealousy between high»ltalian staff officers.

Three United States observers are watching the operations in the desert, one of them flying daily with the Royal Air Force.

Between 30 and 40 aircraft are seen to be either burnt\ out or severely damaged. One hangar on the west side of the aerodrome is completely wrecked and another very badly damaged. A third is seen to have been hit. Administrative buildings were heavily damaged and many bomb craters can be observed on the aerodrome itself.

In Italian East Africa Assab was raided during the night of January 14, attacks being made on stores and warehouses. All the bombs burst in the target area, and a very large fire was started which was visible 35 miles away. Asmara was raided the previous night with considerable success.

From all operations our, aircraft returned safely with the exception of one fighter shot down in Libya.
