(Special to the "Evening Post.")

LEVIN, This Day.

Advice has been received by Mr. and Mrs. Leslie McDonald, Levin, that their son, Pilot Officer L. J. McDonald, was killed in an aircraft accident on January 13.

Pilot Officer McDonald was born in Levin 23 years ago. After leaving the Levin District High School he joined the staff of Messrs. Prevost and Co., wool buyers and brokers, Wellington. He became interested in aviation in 1937, and undertook preliminary training with the Wellington Aero Club. He enlisted in. the R.N.Z.A.F. in September, 1939, and was trained at the Taieri and Wigram stations. He left for England in March, 1940, and took part in 35 bombing raids over Germany. Just prior to his death he was transferred to a special short training course after having completed six months' operational work. Pilot Officer McDonald was a grandson of Mr. J. R. McDonald, well known as a racehorse owner in the early years of this century, and a great grandson of Mr. R. McDonald, one of the earliest white settlers on the Horowhenua coast.
