,—o.. ... . BANDITS IN NEW YORK NEW YORK, January 14. Thousands of shoppers in Fifth Avenue panicked when bandits, after killing a clerk and robbing nearby I offices, engaged in a running gun battle j with the police while racing through two department stores. The .bandits jumped into a taxi and shot the driver when he failed to move fast enough.
One bandit was trapped in a sbhop. A second was wounded by a traffic policeman and fell, but killed the policeman as the latter approached.,
