THREE RESIGNATIONS

PROMINENT OFFICIALS

The resignations of three vice-presi-dents of the Wellington Cricket Association were received at last night's meeting of the management committee of the association. The resignations arose out of action taken by the committee against two Midland players who failed to give a satisfactory explanation for not playing in the Town v. Country match earlier in the season. The three vice-presidents, Messrs. H. Hatch, J. H. Hutchings, and W. P. Walker, are all members of the Midland Club. .The two players were sus-l pended for"two playing Saturdays, and were barred from inclusion in a Wellington- representative side for the remainder of the season. The chairman, Mr. A. W. Duncan, said that he had sent the following' letter to each of the vice-presidents:— "My committee received your letter of resignation as a vice-president of the Wellington Cricket Association. I can assure you that the committee views with extreme' regret that you should have come to' this decision, particularly at a time when cricket can ill spare a supporter keen on the game like yourself. However, we trust that in the near future you may find it possible to renew your active support for Wellington cricket." The chairman's letter was approved and the resignations were accepted with regret. INTERPROVINCIAL GAMES. The Auckland Association wrote agreeing to the return match between the Wellington and Auckland representative elevens being played at Auckland in the third week in February. The Auckland Association stated that it was prepared to billet the members of the Wellington team while in Auckland. It was decided to thank the Auckland Association for its hospitality. The decision to play the annual veterans' "match between Auckland and Wellington at Wellington on March 28 and 29 awaits...confirmation from Auckland. , Mr. J. D. Howitt, manager of the Wellington team which played Canterbury at Christchurch at New Year, stated that officials of the Canterbury j Association had informed him that Canterbury would make every endeavour to play a return match with Wellington, at Wellington, this season. \ It was decided to approach the \ Army authorities regarding the possibility of a match between Trentham Camp and Wellington. Permission was granted for a match between a Wellington junior team and an eleven from the Wellington Boys League at the Basin Reserve on AnniThe St. Patrick's College Old Boys' Club wrote withdrawing its fourth grade team from the competition, and the Kilbirnie Club its seventh grade team. ___—■_____—
