MAILS LOST
BY ENEMY ACTION
ON THE WAY TO BRITAIN
LETTERS AND PARCELS
Approximately 1600 bags of letters, newspapers, and parcels, including both civilian and Expeditionary Force mails for Great' Britain, have been' lost through enemy action, according to a statement made last night by the Minister of Defence (Mr. Jones). The approximate dates of postings are as follows:—-Auckland, Hamilton, and Thames districts, all postings between November 5 and November 22, inclusive. For the remainder of the North Island and the South Island the approximate dates are: Letters only, November 5 to November 22, inclusive; newspapers and parcels, November 1 to November 8, inclusive* and November 21 and November 22. Postings of newspapers and parcels made between November 9 and November 20, inclusive, were dispatched by another vessel.
"It is regretted that included in the mail were approximately 400 bags of parcels for the fighting forces and 300 bags of parcels for civilians," the Minister added. "The contents of the parcels consisted mainly of Christmas gifts of food and comforts."
