CADETS COMMISSIONED
I The annual commissioning of cadets attracted a large crowd to the Salvation Army Citadel in Vivian Street last night. Lieutenant-Commissioner J. Evan Smith was in charge, and twelve young women who have been undergoing training at the training college in Aro Street for. the past ten months, under the direction of Brigadier Florence Birks, the principal, and-Brigadier Annie Smith, side officer, received their commissions as officers and were sent to various corps and institutions throughout New Zealand. Five young men who have received their training at various corps also received their commissions. ,
A feature of the meeting was the presentation by Mrs. Lieutenant-Com-missioner Smith of the Order of the Silver Star to several mothers of the cadets. These represented all the mothers who had a daughter in training, to. each one of whom. is ".sent a silver star for each officer child.
The appointments of new officers were as follows:—Harry Bastion, to Mataura; Ellen Benson, to Rakaia; Elsie Calcott, to Rotoru'a; Mavis Christoffersen, to Upper Hutt; Annie Fordyce, to Gonville; Jean Gardiner, to Taihape; Gladys Goffin, to Terrace End; Louisa Jackson, to Brooklyn; lan Melsop, to Patea; Beatrice Palmer, to Redroofs Maternity Hospital, Dunedin;: Elizabeth Smith, North Region, Auckland; Joshua Taylor, to Hokitika; Ada Tyrrell, to Eltham Boys' Home; . Bertrand - Verran.. to. Queenstowh; Thomas Wray, to Papakura Military Camp; Zoey Young, to Putaruru Boys' Home.
