EXCURSION TO PICTON.
On Anniversary Day there wiU.be a daylight excursion to Picton by the Wahine, which leaves Wellington at 8 a.m. and arrives back at about 6 p.m. Music on the trip will be provided by the First Battalion Wellington Regimental Band. The trip to Picton usually takes less than three hours, more than half of which time is spent in smooth harbour waters. There will be no lack of attractions in and around Picton. A train will leave for Blenheim shortly after the Wahine's arrival and will return to Picton prior to her departure, and launches will visit a number beauty spots on the other side of the Sound. . . ■ ■■ . WELLINGTON HOME GUARD. ♦ The Home Guard sub-committees are energetically recruiting for the Home Guard and the emergency precautions scheme. The Newtown subcommittee has arranged a meeting of all the residents in the Newtown sub-area in St. Thomas's Hall tomorrow, at 8 p.m. The Mayor (Mr. Hislop) and Councillor R. McKeen, M.P., will be the speakers. Opportunity for enrolment will be given at the close of the meeting.
