RICCARTON TRIALS

ROYAL CHIEF GOES WELL

(Special to \he "Evening Post.") CHRISTCHURCH, January 11. Some instructive work was done at Riccarton this morning by horses engaged at Trentham. The plough was the track in use, and among those to perform well were Royal Chief, Winning Rival, Wardress, Density, Doria, Gentility, and Pleading. Royal Chief had-Winning Rival as a companion over seven furlongs, and they were together throughout in lmin 28 3-ssec, the last half-mile in 51 3-ssec. Wardress ran the same distance alone in lmin 28 4-ssec, the last half-mile in 52 3-ssec. Density was again responsible for a smart half-mile in 48 l-ssec. King's Toast took 49sec. Monetary and Palfrey required 49 4-ssec. - . Grey Night ran five furlongs in lmin 4 3-ssec, and Trench Fight covered the distance in lmin 5 2-ssec. Doria and Gentility went six furlongs in lmin 16 2-ssec, and Iceland Spar took lmin 16 4-ssec. Lord Midas, not extended, required lmin 19 3-ssec. Omapo and Stylish did the journey together *n lmin 16 3-ssec. Pleading sprinted three furlongs up the back in 36 2-ssec. Wild Fox took 38sec down the straight, and Bird of Prey took 39 2-ssec. Willow Wood equalled Pleading's time. Further riding engagements of Riccarton horses are:—C. T. Wilson, Wardress; P. Spratt, Density; D. Corboy, King's Toast; A, Messervy, Schoolgirl.
