RED CROSS OFFERS HELP
Major J. Abel, chairman of the standing committee of the New Zealand Red Cross Society, has been in communication today with the Red Cross branches at Opotiki, Taneatua, and Whakatane regarding any assisttance that might be necessary, as the Red Cross Society has special funds available for this purpose. Several ' witnesses expressed commendation of the act of Oscar Strom, . a seaman on a coastal vessel, who yesterday swam through several hundred - yards of choppy sea in Day's Bay to - the aid of two occupants of a rowing boat who were in difficulties. Bom- - hardier K. K. Jones and a young woman companion had put out some ", distance from the shore in their dinghy - when it was swamped and Strom sup-, ..-■ ported them until Messrs. J. and D. . Dellabafca brought them ashore in janother dinghy, little the worse for . their adventure.
