THORNDON AREA MEETING
Twenty-eight members of the Emergency Reserve Corps (Thorndon area) were present at a meeting held th_s week. The meeting was also attended by Mr. C. H. Chapman, M.P., Lieu-tenant-Colonel A. Cowles, and Major P. de B. Brandon, chairman of thr. Thorndon area sub-committee.
It was decided to recommend to the Wellington central committee the appointment of Major P. de B. Brandon as commander of the Home Guard unit. Thorndon area, and Mr. C. C. Miles as chief warden, Civil Guard unit, Thorndon area.
The area sub-committee was appointed as follows: —Commander of Home Guard unit and chief warden of the Civil Guard unit (ex officio), and Messrs. J. B. Blundell, S. Eichelbauin R. H. Ellis, D. A. Highet, J. C. R Marchbanks. E. Sheed, J. T. Waugh C. H. Williams.
The meeting agreed to hold a combined parade of both Home Guard and Civil Guard units on January 23, the place and time of parade to be announced later.
Lieutenant-Colonel CoAvles addressed the meeting on Home Guard and Civil Guard matters. He stressed the necessity for universal support of the scheme.
After a general discussion the meeting agreed that every enrolled man should and Avould act as a recruiting officer and do everything in his power to further the efficiency of the scheme.
