FRENCH MORALE

SAID TO BE HIGH

JUBILATION OVER ITALIAN

REVERSES

NEW YORK, January 2,

A United Press correspondent who has returned from Martinique reports that passengers from the first ship which arrived from France for three months stated that there is widespread opposition in unoccupied France against the growing demands of the Germans. They said that the French jubilantly hailed the Italian reverses in Egypt. These had ended recriminations against England, which was restored in high favour. French morale was high, and the people were saying that France ought to have a chance to repay Italy's stab in the back, and that the British should not have the sole pleasure of battering the Italians.
