.There were 84 entries for the Mahawatu . Bowling Centre's New Year pairs tournament, players taking part from as far afield as Hawera, Patea, Waverley, Marton, Masterton, Dannevirke, and Seatoun. At the close of the elimination rounds there were 36 pairs eligible and this number has been reduced in post-section play till those remaining for the semi-finals are Turner and Greenwood (Manawatu), Larcomb and Kershaw (Northern), Wood and Skoglund (Northern), and Connor and Anderson (Northern).
