N.Z. AND FREE FRANCE

GREETINGS EXCHANGED

New Year greetings and expressions of good will have been exchanged by the Prime Minister of New Zealand (Mr. Fraser) and the High Commissioner for Free France *n the Pacific (M. Sautot). On January 1 the Prime Minister received the following message from M. Sautot:— "On the occasion of the New Yoar, 1 send your Excellency wishes of happiness and, prosperity from the French population. in the Pacific, and express the admiration we feel for the magnificent war effort made by your country, and for the .victories won in Libya. Free Frenchmen of the Pacific rejoice that they will shortly be able to rejoin the heroic soldiers of New Zealand on' the African battlefields."

To this the Prime Minister has sent the following reply:—

"1 warmly reciprocate the sentiments contained in your telegram-of December 31. I have no doubt whatever of the ultimate success of the forces oi right over those of wrong and I look forward to the day when the gallant representatives of Free France in the Pacific will fight alongside our men- I extend to you and your people all good wishes for a prosperous and successful year."
