This map shoivs the location of Emirau (named as Squally) Island, north of New Guinea. Emirau is one of the many isles of the Bismarck Archipelago. This archipelago is a large number of islands lying north and north-east of New Guinea and which, prior to 1918, were held by Germany. The largest island in the group is New Pomerania, but the archipelago also includes Neiv Mecklenburg, New Hanover, small attendant islands, the Admiralty Islands, and a chain off the coast of New Guinea, the whole system lying in the form of a great amphitheatre of oval shape. The archipelago was named in honour of the first Chancellor of the German Reich.

Mr. and Mrs. R. C. Idiens and their two children. Mr. Idiens is a Christchurch man who had been in business as a builder and contractor at the islands for many years.
Mr. and Mrs. D. James and their child, who were returning to New Zea- ! land. Mr. James had been working on a sheep station at Kaingaroa. Miss C. Hough. Miss Hough is an islander. The ship was carrying 1375 sheep, 77 bales of wool, one horse, several tons of general cargo, and mails.
