BIOGRAPHICAL NOTES

Group Captain Nevill has been Air Force Member for Supply on the Air Board since it was set up in 1937. He began his military career at the Royal Military College at Duntroon in 1916 anJ. graduated as an artillery officer. After serving in the R.N.Z.A. and on the New Zealand Staff Corps he transferred in 1930 to the Royal New Zealand Air Force as a flight lieutenant. Between 1934 and 1936 he was in the United Kingdom attending the Air Force Staff College at Andover, and during 1936 he acted as liaison officer in London. Group Captain Nevill took a science degree at Victoria College in 1922, and is an associate fellow of the Royal Aeronautical Society.

Lieutenant-Colonel King is well known in military and sporting oircles in the Wellington district. He won his commission on Gallipoli during the Great "War and returned from overseas with the rank of captain. He remained with the military service and was for many years with the Ordnance Services at Trentham, being Director of Ordnance at the outbreak of war. He went overseas with- the First Echelon as a member of General Freyberg's staff.

Squadron Leader Cohen is in command of the new Air Force Station at Nelson. A son of Mr. and Mrs. Albert Cohen, of Mulgrave Street, Wellington,

he was born at Feilding in 1908 and joined the Royal New Zealand Air Force six years ago. He has been very successful in various branches of sport.

Sergeant Ormcnd is a member of the well-known Ormond family of Hawke's Bay, being a descendant of \ c late Hon. J. D. Ormond, first superintendent of the province. Sergeant Ormond contested the Hawke's Bay scat in 1935 and the Napier seat in 1938. He enlisted as a private when war broke out and distinguished himself by attempting a difficult rescue while his transport was lying in port during the voyage overseas. He was commended for his courage by his commanding officer at the time.

Company Sergeant-Major Blanshard is a son of Mr. and Mrs. G. H. Blanshard, of Wellington. He was born in Blenheim and was educated in Wellington at St. Mark's, Mount Cook School and Wellington College. He began his military career in the college cadet company and later enlisted in the Ist Battalion, Wellington Regiment. In 1939 he won the Neeco Silver Cup for champion light machine-gun shot. He was called up for service on the outbreak of war and was given leave by the Shell Oil Company, where he w— employed. Eventually transferred to the Provost Company and posted to the Quartermaster's Store, Trentham, he was promoted from corporal to company sergeant-major in three days. He is now on active service with the 2nd N.Z.E.F., and since his arrival in England his parents have received advice that he has been made regimental ser-geant-major.
