FINE, MILD WEATHER
BECOMING LESS SETTLED
Special forecast for Wellington:—
Fresh to strong northerly winds.
Weather fine and mild, but cloud is likely to increase and the weather to become rather less settled during the weekend. No heavy rain is likely.
The general forecast is for light and variable winds over most of the North Island. About and south of Cook Strait northerly winds will predominate and will become strong in some exposed positions. Fair to fine weather is likely to continue over most of the country, but there will be occasional rain in the western and far southern districts of the South Island. Temperatures will be mild' to warm.
During the last two days New Zealand has been covered by an extensive and stationary anticyclone. As the highest pressure has been chiefly to the south-east, winds from an easterly quarter have predominated. Apart from considerable low cloud in the morning in some districts, fine and warm weather has prevailed. Winds this morning had turned' to the north over most of the country and had freshened, and cloud was increasing generally.
All four main centres have had moderate and variable winds with fair to fine weather. Wellington had 12 hours of bright sunshine on Tuesday, with temperatures ranging between 63.8 degrees and 49.1 degrees, and 13.8 hours of bright sunshine were recorded yesterday, with rather higher temperatures, 69.2 and 55.2 degrees being the maximum and minimum.
