POSITIONS IN COLONIES
TRADE UNION OFFICIALS
SPEEDING UP ARMS WORK
LONDON, December 27, British trade union officials will soon be appointed as Government labourv officers in the colonies. The Colonial Office, it is learnt today, has suggested, to the Trades Union Council that experienced trade unionists should take up official positions in the colonies .to deal with local labour questions and to advise local trade unions.
It is understood that the Minister of Labour (Mr. Bevin), in a confidential memorandum addressed to unions and employers, has made a number of suggestions for speeding up work in armament factories and increasing production generally. One of the proposals is believed to be the establishment of joint councils. The memorandum is to be discussed by the executives of the unions concerned.
