TWO TO ONE
FRENCH AIRMAN'S SUCCESS
(British Official Wireless.) (Received December 14, 11.30 a.m.)
RUGBY, December 13,
A pilot of the Free French Air Force, flying with an R.A.F, Spitfire squadron, fought a battle with German fighters over the French coast. He was attacked by two Messerschmitt 109's, states the Air Ministry news service. He quickly turned the tables on the enemy. Both were forced to abandon the fight and were last seen diving towards French soil with black smoke pouring from one of them.
"I saw several enemy aircraft in pairs," jaid the pilot, "and two which had orange noses attacked me in line astern, diving on my tail. I dodged this attack, making a sharp turn to the left I was now at 15,000 feet and close to the French coast, and the same two Messerschmitts, which had turned and gained more height than I had, attacked again. I made a head-on attack at long rsnge and saw my tracer bullfets going all round the enemy aircraft One broke away, apparently without returning my fire. Black smoke was pouring from this machine. Both pilots then abandoned the fight."
