BIG FINAL FLUTTER
During a recent match at Nairnville Park one of Onslow's players opened his shoulders to such an extent that, owners of some cars parked outside, the ground were made to. feel uneasy. The player himself, however, was interested in one of the cars, and that perhaps was a guarantee of safety for those who happened to be concerned. The player was E. R. Banks. He was having his final flutter in local cricket before entering the Air Force, and he made a proper job of it. His side was up against a big score (in which there was a century). Banks went after the runs, as has generally been its habit, and he gave a dashing display, the like of which has not been seen on the ground. Of "sixers" he hit thirteen, and, except for a few singles, the rest of his big score of 165 was made up with 4's. It is a great pity that more was not seen of this free-hitting batsman, who is also a competent 'keeper. In Auckland he used to make his 60's or thereabouts with a minimum of hits. For a time he played for University in Wellington, but somehow did not attract the attention due to him. i
