BEAU VITE'S MILE

PAY ROLL AND PAR AVION

(By "Rang-atira.")

Horses with Auckland Engagements cr.eated the main interest in the work at Trentham this morning. Though the city was deluged last night with the sudden change to a southerly, there was no rain ' whatever in the upper valley, and the plough was in capital order for the galloping. Beau Vite (W. J. Evans) went very smoothly all the way in a mile spin with Piastre (K. Smith), and, after they had taken 54-|sec to reach the half-mile, he came home the last halfmile in 50sec, being much too good for his stablemate over that portion. As he has thrown off most sign of his muscle soreness, he is now a certain starter in the Auckland Cup, and, all going well meanwhile, he leaves for the north with other members of the team next Friday. Going the reverse way, Pay Roll (Evans) finished a length clear Of Par| avion (F. Warren) over five furlongs in j lmin 3sec. Par Avion, who is on a steady upgrade, was nevertheless not the least disgraced. Erinscourt (P. Williams) and Corn Prince (Warren) were practically together over half a mile the reverse way in 50sec. Foreign Coin (P. Bur- : gess) did a similar task alone in the same time, and he never appeared to be doing his best.
