The Dominion Auctioneering Company, Ltd., Palmerston North, report that pigs maintained late rates at their usual weekly sale, a total clearance being made to a good attendance of buyers. Heavy entries of poultry were keenly sought after, there being a particularly good demand for forward cockerels and heavy hens. A sharp rise in the price of vegetables took effect during the week, lettuce selling to 16s a case, while cauliflowers, peas, and cabbages also improved in price. New fruit coming forward sold readily, particularly tomatoes, cherries, and strawberries. Pigs: Best weaners 22s to 26s 6d, medium weaners 18s to 21s 6d, slips 30s to 355, heavy stores 45s to 52s 6d, light stores 36s to 40s, heavy porkers to £3 18s, light porkers £2 13s to £2 16s, sow and litter £4, sows £2 12s. Poultry: Heavy hens 4s to 4s 9d each, best W.L. hens 3s 6d to 4s 3d each, light hens 2s 9d to 3s 3d each, spring cockerels, heavy 4s to 5s 6d, medium 2 S 6d to 3s 6d each, small 6d to Is 6d each; small pullets 3s 9d to 4s each; roosters 2s 3d to 3s 9d each; old ducks 2s 3d to 3s each; duck and ducklings 12s to 16s. Produce: Strawberries 2s 8d to 3s Id lb, red currants 6d to 7d lb, tomatoes Is 2d to Is 5d lb, cherries Is 3d to Is 6d lb, cucumbers 12s to 15s case, gooseberries 3£d to 4^d lb, lettuce, prime 12s to 16s case, others 7s to 9s case; cauliflowers 5s to 10s 6d bag, cabbages 3s to 6s case, peas 2£d to 4Jd lb, broad beans 2d to 2Jd lb, carrots 6s to 9s case, parsnips 9d to Is bundle, rhubarb 4s to 7s dozen, beetroot 2s to 5s 9d dozen bundles, marrows 15s to 16s 6d case, spring onions Is to Is 7d bundle, turnips Is to 2s dozen bunches, spinach 5s to 9s case, radishes Is 3d to 2s dozen bunches, swedes 5s to 7s i bag, onions 25s to 32s 6d bag, potatoes I 4s to 5s 6d bag, asparagus 9s to 11s dozen. j
The Commercial Travellers' and Warehousemen's Association has expressed its thanks to the Wellington Wrestling Association for a donation of £15 towards its patriotic and charitable efforts. Mention has also been made of the generous help the association has received from sporting bodies and the public generally towards its blind soldiers' and saliors* fund and children's Christmas cheer.
