SPIRITUAL FORCES
MUST BE MOBILISED
IF VICTORY IS TO BE WON
Prayers for the British Empire were offered up at today's intercessory secvice in the Town Hall, a large number of citizens attending both sessions, over which the Rev. A. Muriel and Mr. R. L. Button presided, other ministers and laymen assisting. The Mayor, Mr. T. C. A. Hislop, read a passage from the Scriptures, and Mr. J. Randall was at the organ.
During the course of a brief address Mr. Muriel said that, although there were signs that the tide had begun to turn in our favour and the dawn was beginning to break, we still needed all our strength for the contest. As Mr. Churchill had said* there could be no Christmas cessation of hostilities, no compromise in the struggle between good and evil. Then, too, we needed to mobilise all our spiritual forces —men, money, and munitions were not enough—and that was where the ordinary man and woman came in. They must not weary of welldoing and of prayer if the fight was to be won.
