PATRIOTIC FUND
DONATION OF £400 DECISION OF AUTOMOBILE EXECUTIVE On the recommendation of the finance committee, the executive of the Automobile Association (Wellington) decided last night to pay £400 in New Zealand currency to the National Patriotic Fund Board, thej association having been unsuccessful in its request to the Minister of Finance (•Mr. Nash) to be allowed to forward £400 sterling to the Automobile Association in London for payment to the Lord Mayor's Relief Fund. The finance committee reported that Mr. Nash had pointed out that, owing to the urgent need for funds in London, the National Patriotic Fund Board had remitted £100,000, but the collections received to date by the board for that purpose were substantially less than £100,000. In the circumstances, the committee recommended the payment of £400 in New Zealand currency to the | J board. The reduced amount was suggested in view of an appeal from the Apostleship of the Sea for a contribution to assist its work for the entertainment and welfare of seamen. The committee felt that if a contribution was to be made, the Missions to Seamen should also be helped. It was agreed that the sum of £100, representing approximately the cost of transmitting £400 sterling overseas, should be divided equally between the Apostleship of the Sea and the Missions to Seamen.
