BEATEN BY WEIGHT

HIGH CASTE'S FINE EFFORT

(From "Vedette.")

SYDNEY, November 21. High.Caste* was beaten by the Western Australian Remarc in the Williamstown Cup at Flemington last Saturday, the difference in the weights being too much for the big son of Bulandshar, who struggled on well with his 9.7 but was beaten easily at the finish by Remarc under 7.1. High Caste has returned to Rand wick and after a few weeks of comparatively light work will start off again on his early autumn preparation. He is i likely to have his next race in the Challenge Stakes at Raridwick at the end of January. . Sydney stipendiary stewards awarded their first 12 months' disqualification for a considerable period at Kensington on Wednesday. They took exception to the performance of the three-year-old Lejong, who was beaten narrowly in a Flying Welter division. The trainer, J. M. Kennedy, jockey J. Ryan, and the gelding-were disqualified for 12 months under the corrupt practices rule, arid the owner, Mrs. E. Brown, was asked to appear later to show cause why she should not be dealt with under the rules. . Final Victory scored for the Price stable at Rosehill last Saturday in rather impressive style. He is a neat brown by Phaleron Bay from Hunting Lodge, and on his performance will win more races. In . the early part of his preparation he was a handful and was prepared in blinkers. These are not permitted in races under Australian rules, and probably accounted for his strangeness in the early part of his race. Lion Hunt, one of the oldest of Hunting Song's progeny in Australia, won a Novice Handicap at Rosehill with topweight of 8.10. His performance, however, was little superior to that of the three-year-old filly Happy Bay, who was an unlucky fifth. This filly, by Phaleron Bay from Happy Returns, has been a speedy galloper from the outset of her career, but has been dogged by bad luck. Aranui was the winner of the Parramatta Mile at Rosehill until a few strides from the post, when he was caught and beaten by Bestop, who had failed to do better than finish third earlier in the day. Aranui had won earlier in the week at Newcastle. H. E. Russell took a holiday, from training his own horses, but within a fortnight of resuming control won a race at Kensington this week with Bronze Flight, who surprised by the manner in which he finished on oyer a mile and a quarter, a distance which hitherto had been much beyond him. Bronze Flight was one of the last into the short straight but won running away. He was a rank outsider, and his success was welcomed by bookmakers.
