QUEEN CARNIVAL

COUNCIL TAKES NO ACTION

A proposal to conduct a queen carnival throughout the Wellington Province for patriotic purposes was placed before the Wellington Provincial Patriotic Council by a deputation representing the Wellington Metropolitan Patriotic Committee, at the council's meeting yesterday.

Mr. J. Annand Smith said the idea was to conduct the carnival on a provincial basis, with six queens—three in Wellington and three in the remainder of the province—and a final coronation ceremony in Wellington.

Some, members of the council felt that local queen carnivals in the various centres would be more effective than a provincial contest, while others —notably Palmerston North and Masterton delegates—reported that their districts would not entertain the idea of further queen carnivals at the pre-
