Her Excellency Lady Galway paid n. farewell visit to the Pioneer Club yesterday afternoon.

The Minister of Railways (Mr. D. G. Sullivan) returned to Wellington from the south today.

As a mark^of appreciation of his ser^ vices to the church during the vacancy in the ministry, recently filled by the Rev. P. Gladstone.Hughes, members of the congregation of St. John's Presbyterian Church, at a social gathering last night, presented to the Rev. J. H. McKenzie two suitably-inscribed books Mr. Ad Howitt, who made the presentation on behalf of the congregation, paid a tribute to the work .of the Rev. Mr. McKenzie,. who, at the age of 91, was still an active and valued member of the Ministry; Mr. Malcolm Fraser, also on behalf of the : congregation, handed a wallet to. the Rev. J. S. Murray for his conscientious work as inj terim moderator.. ■

Dr. L. D. Cohen, accompanied by Mrs. Cohen, has returned from a visit to the south.

The sympathy of' members of the Wellington Harbour Board was extended to the chairman,* Mr.",W. L. Fitzherbert, and Mrs. Fitzherbert, in the recent loss.of their daughter, Mrs. E. W. Mills, Palmerstan North.

The Rev. Moses Ayrton, of Nelson, for reasons of ill health, has been granted twelve months' : leave of absence from circuit duties by the Nelson Methodist Synod, the period commencing as from' April next.

Mr. A. M. Clark, of California, has been offered the position of. assistant lecturer in geography at Canterbury University College. Mr. R. G. Bowman, a member of the. Soil Conservation Service of the United; States Department of Agriculture,,who has been temporary assistant in geography at the college this year, is unable to remain any longer in New Zealand.

Mr. L. J. Schmitt, general manager of the Tourist and Publicity Department, arrived in Wellington today from the South Island.
