SWEDISH ELECTION

The successful "keep-out-of-the-war" policy of the present Labourite Premier, Per Albin. Hanson, gave his party a complete victory recently when the Swedish people elected a new House of Representatives of 230 members. While all other parties lost seats, the Social Democrats won 19 new ones. The Agrarians were the heaviest losers, with a loss of eight seats, while the Socialists were completely eliminated from the Parliament, and the Communists, although gaining one seat in Stockholm, lost three others. The Socialists and Communists to-, gether lost almost' half the popular' vote they had in the 1936 election.' The new House of Representatives will be:-Labour/or Social. Democrats, 134; Conservatives, 42; Agrarians, 28; Lib-' «rals, 23; Communists, 3. . ■ '
