ON WAY HOME

AMERICANS FROM EAST

LINER TAKES OVER 1000

(Received November 26, 9 a.m.)

MANILA, November 25,

The liner Washington sailed from Manila for Honolulu with 440 evacuees from Shanghai, 618 from Manila, and about 50 United States sailors and marines.

I It is reported from Manila that 70 United States naval ratings and marines are aboard the Washington to accompany the evacuees to the United States due to reported labour difficulties aboard as the result of an agitation between west and east coast organisers.

Navy officials in Washington said that 50 sailors and marines whose enlistments will expire soon are merely returning home by the Washington. The navy has no knowledge of friction among the crew.
