LANDING OF THE BRITISH
TUMULTUOUS WELCOME
EFFICIENCY IN ACTION
(British Official Wireless.) (Received November 26, 10 a.m.) RUGBY, November 25. The tumultuous welcome accorded the first British troops to land on the mainland of Greece is described in dispatches to the British Press from correspondents. The disembarkation of men, supplies, and equipment was speedily completed in the presence of Air Commodore H. D'Albiac and MajorGeneral Gambier Parry. During a recent brief visit to Greece, Sir Arthur Longmore, Air Officer Com-manding-in-Chief the Middle East, was received by King George of Greece and conferred with General Metaxas and General Papagos, the Greek commander.
Satisfaction is expressed by Sir Arthur Longmore at the speed and efficiency with which the British units have gone into action, as well as with the successes so far achieved. Aircraft have played an important part by cooperating with the Greek land forces, in the further push forward recorded in the last Greek communique. I (By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright.) LONDON, November 24. According to the Athens correspondent of the "Daily Telegraph," warships j landed a number of English and New Zealand airmen in a Greek harbour.
The following official statement was issued in Wellington last night:— "There has been some mention today in 8.8.C. broadcasts of New Zealand troops being among ihose landed in Greece. There is no authoritative information to hand upon the point, and if any such official information is received it will be made known immediately."
