SATURDAY'S PLAY

REPRESENTATIVE AND CLUB

HUTT JOIN LEADERS

The playing of the Town-Country cricket match had an effect upon some teams in senior competition matches which also took place on Saturday afternoon. The weather, too, affected play generally,' though the improving conditions "during the afternoon were used to the full. Sterling efforts to reach the tidy scores by their opponents were made by Wellington College Old Boys and Wellington, while Midland, already well placed, did not get far ahead of Kilbirnie on the first innings. Midland, however, pressed on solidly for full points, and the other leaders, Wellington College Old Boys, went down on the first innings. Hutt gained an easy outright win and drew level in the lead with Kilbirnie and Old Boys. Institute advanced and Karori scored their first win. Several batsmen shaped well, Thomas scoring a fine double and Lang, Crawford, R. Lamason, Wiggs, and Rabone all making good contributions. Champness was outstanding with the ball, Ashenden, O'Neill, Morgan, and Meech being others to gain creditable figures. \ RESULTS AT A GLANCE. Hutt (313 for five wickets, declared), won outright from University (71 and 128), at Hutt Recreation Ground. Midland (234 aud 56 for two wickets) won outright from Kilbirnie (19S and 91), at Kilbirnie Park. Karori (219 and 142 for seven, declared) won on the first innings from Wellington College Old Boys (204 and 98 for four), at Karori Park.

Institute Old Boys (284 and 150) won on the first innings from Wellington (271 and 12S for seven) at the Basin Reserve (first day) and Kelburn Park.
