DOMINION AIRMEN IN

CANADA

ACTIVITIES OF Y.W.C.A.

Arrangements made by the National Council of the Y.W.C.A. of Canada for the provision of suitable hospitality and entertainment for New Zealand air personnel training in Canada were described by the Minister of Defence (the Hon. F. Jones) today.

"I have been advised," said Mr. Jones, "that the National Council of the Canadian Y.W.C.A. has been asked by Brigadier-General W. W. Foster, Director of Auxiliary Services in Canada, to outline its plans for providing suitable hospitality and entertainment for students at the Empire air training schools during their periods of leave from camp.

"I am sure that parents of young New Zealanders proceeding to Canada for training, and the trainees themselves, will be pleased to learn that extensive arrangements have been made by the Canadian Y.W.C.A. to ensure that our air personnel will receive the homelike hospitality for which Canada is noted, and that on their periods of leave facilities will be provided for, their entertainment and recreation and that they will have the opportunity to meet Canadian people in their own homes. "In general, it has been arranged to enlist the co-operation of all interested groups and to co-ordinate their activities with those of local bodies and organisations through the numerous Y.W.C.A. offices throughout Canada and the hostess houses established at the entrances to training camps. "I was particularly pleased, added Mr. Jones, "to learn that this service for our young New Zealanders, of whom many will be away from home for the first time, is one that is of particular interest to the National Council of the Canadian Y.W.C.A. Their comment is: 'It gives Canadian women an opportunity to return in some measure the wonderful hospitality shown to Canadian soldiers when in England. We shall endeavour to do our bestfor New Zealand airmen in Canada."
