MILK ZONING

HUTT AND BAYS DISTRICT

The subject of the zoning of milk deliveries in the Hutt Valley and Bays district was fully discussed at last night's meeting of the Petone Borough Council, when a communication from the Oil Fuel Controller, Wellington, was received asking for comment.

Several councillors spoke on the subject from the point of view of an increase of efficiency. It was pointed out that the saving in fuel would not be great, and that the scheme might result in raen losii.g their employment. The question of the creation of a monopoly was also discussed.

A motion was carried approving of the principle of zoning, but expressing the opinion that some machinery should be provided for the consideration of complaints from consumers, and the imposition of suitable penalties where such complaints are proved justifiable, and that provision should be made for the opening of new businesses where an increase of population so warrants-
